E1 : Champions of the Water

Supporting the growth of one of the world's newest electric race championships through design that builds credibility, brand recognition and impact across every touchpoint.

Developed and delivered at pace in close collaboration with a lean internal team, responding to the demands of a live international sporting calendar.

Brief

E1 is the world’s first all-electric raceboat championship, staging high-performance electric powerboat races in iconic waterfront cities around the globe. Bringing together advanced marine technology, team ownership from high-profile figures, and a focus on cleaner propulsion, the series introduces a new format of racing designed specifically for urban water locations.

As the championship continues to expand across international race locations, the brand requires a strong and consistent visual presence that translates seamlessly from host city promotion to race-day experience. The E1 identity is applied across a wide range of touchpoints — including large-scale physical branding at venues, OOH marketing campaigns, social content, and presentation design that supports partners, stakeholders, and event storytelling.

With each race introducing new audiences and environments, the creative approach balances flexibility with consistency, ensuring the brand remains premium, future-focused, and unmistakably E1 wherever it appears.

Solution

Working as part of a small in-house creative team at E1 Series, design responsibilities spanned almost every visual touchpoint of the championship. From global marketing campaigns and race weekend communications to commercial partnerships, presentations, merchandise and event branding, the role demanded versatility across multiple design disciplines within a fast-paced international sporting environment.

The creative approach focused on developing a flexible visual system capable of performing at speed and at scale — one that could move seamlessly between global promotion, physical race environments and partner communications while maintaining a clear, premium identity. Working across digital, print and environmental applications, each project balanced the demands of tight production timelines with the need to deliver engaging, high-quality creative that remained consistent across every platform.

The result is a cohesive body of work that demonstrates the breadth of an in-house design role, supporting the continued growth of the championship while creating a recognisable and consistent brand experience across every stage of the E1 season.

Building a global race experience.

Over three seasons, environmental branding and physical graphics were designed and delivered across multiple international race locations, helping to create a consistent and recognisable brand experience in each host city. Working within a lean in-house team, projects ranged from large-format branding and wayfinding to OOH campaigns and event signage, collaborating with local suppliers and navigating varied production processes while maintaining a high standard of design and execution.

Building Distinctive Race Identities

Event identity development is an important part of the work at E1, with each race presenting an opportunity to create a distinct visual direction within the wider brand. Throughout working in E1 different concepts and visual languages were created to give race locations their own character.

Race identities had to translate across physical environments, race-day experiences and digital communications.

Keeping pace with a live championship.

Working alongside E1's marketing team and external social agency, ad hoc social assets are developed to support key moments throughout the championship. From race updates and announcements to promotional campaigns and time-sensitive communications, these responsive graphics provide additional creative support when fast-turnaround content is required.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with the wider brand, each asset maintains visual consistency while responding to the pace of a live sporting calendar. Alongside creative feedback and collaboration on campaign activity, this work helps ensure the championship's digital communications remain engaging, cohesive and aligned across every touchpoint.

Supporting commercial growth through design.

Designed and delivered hundreds of commercial presentations, pitch decks, and sustainability communications for E1—combining strategic thinking, visual storytelling, and fast-paced execution. Experienced in creating polished mock-ups, renders, and presentation assets that help teams communicate ideas clearly and engage audiences with confidence.

A multidisciplinary
in-house role

Over three seasons, the role evolved far beyond individual design outputs, spanning environmental branding, digital campaigns, presentations, editorial design and commercial communications. Working across such a broad range of touchpoints required adaptability, collaboration and the ability to maintain a consistent visual identity within a fast-moving international sporting environment. The result is a body of work that reflects the breadth and versatility of an in-house designer supporting the continued growth of a global championship.
